About Us

Our martial arts school specializes in Shotokan, a Japanese form of Karate. Sensei Nelson Lopez, a highly accomplished Kung-Fu champion from Hudson County, confounds the school. Lopez holds numerous state championship titles, awards, and belts. Cofounder Joseph Valentino also holds several martial arts belts in a variety of Karate styles. Both have taught martial arts extensively over the past decade. Lopez has been teaching martial arts for over 25 years.

“The opening of Shin Budo Karate Do is important to the community because it helps residents to learn the art of self-defense,” explains Valentino. “Karate can help people build strength, speed, and self-confidence.”

The Shin Budo Karate Do will be a family-friendly environment. In fact, both cofounders have deep family roots. “We will encourage families to join and train together,” says Sensei Lopez, a father of three. “The martial arts can help teach self-respect and respect toward others.”

Karate can also be part of an overall personal training program to improve cardiovascular health, shed excess weight, and increase flexibility. Most healthcare professional recommend that Americans increase their exercise to lose weight. “Karate is amazing cardiovascular exercise,” says Lopez. “With karate, you are actually learning something as you are getting into shape.”

“Karate is a holistic approach to improving the mind-body relationship,” says Valentino. “It helps people to reduce tension through meditation, concentration, and mental cleansing."
